How Important is Staff Training?

We will all agree that we are living in unprecedented times. The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced many business owners to think of novel ways to stay relevant in the minds of their customers or from an individual employee perspective, use the “down” time to level up. (see what I did there?)
TOVo Communications, my Marketing and Training agency, recently had the privilege of working with the team at the Phoenix Health and Vision Center in St. Ann’s Bay. This is a small business that specializes in eye care, including the sale of stylish, yet affordable frames. They also house other health services to facilitate general medical needs at their location in St. Ann, Jamaica. In addition to this, they have a very prominent presence where Corporate Social Responsibility is concerned.
To back track a bit, within the past month or so, we have been making calls and sending emails to introduce our Corporate Training services to local businesses. Follow up calls yielded some pretty interesting responses:
Scenario 1: TOVO: Hi...our company sent an email on “x” date introducing our Corporate Training services, can you please say if you received the email?
Business Owner: Ahhh this is not something that we would be interested in any time soon...
TOVO: ...[Confirmed whether email was actually received or not]
B.O: I think we did but we wouldn’t be able to do anything like that for now...
Scenario 2: [We introduce ourselves and ask for confirmation].
Business Manager: Oh yes, I remember seeing the email but we are not able to take up your offer right now...”
While I understand there may be several reasons for not being able to take up our offer now, COVID-19 being number 1 on the list, there are a number of questions and concerns that I cannot help but entertain following those responses. One of which, based on Scenario 2 is “why wasn’t there a response to our email to the effect?” ...Anyway, I digress...
I say without apology and without fear of contradiction, that it is smart, forward thinking Managers and Business Owners that make this kind of investment in their staff. The returns and eventual impact on the organization’s bottom line are invaluable.
