Read This Only if You Value Yourself

Keynote Speaking

Investment - Purchasing a good or service with the expectation of some future benefit.

When was the last time you made an investment in yourself? What was the nature of that investment? Is it something that will stay with you for an extended period of time? Can you look back and say that you have indeed made a worthwhile investment?

For some, treating themselves to a cute outfit or an expensive dinner is what is considered an investment in themselves. For others, it may be purchasing a house, a car or furthering their education.

If I might share a personal experience: despite having gone to Teachers' College and University, I made a decision early in my secular life that I must acquire a skill. I thought about what I was passionate about and eventually enrolled in a Massage Therapy course with the National School of Cosmetology which operates under the HEART Trust umbrella. You can sign up for courses at https://apply.heart-nta.org/ . Within a few months I completed my course and was awarded a Diploma in Level 3 Massage Therapy. Needless to say, that decision has been of great benefit to me, availing me the experience as a Spa Manager as well as facilitating a massage business I did some years ago. To this day, I still get requests to perform a service! Can someone say "supplemental income"?

While each persons is free to choose and spend their hard earned cash the way they want to, I am curious as to the reason behind the disparity that I have observed when it comes to self-investment.

I have observed that a large number of persons are hesitant to make investments in themselves which build them up as individuals, which give them a lasting skill, which promotes their growth and development (future benefits). They prefer the temporary satisfaction that a shoe purchase brings; and often times, they find themselves regretting the particular purchase, confessing that they really did not need the item. They later realize that the only thing permanent about such items is the place they hold in the closet or wardrobe because 80% of the time that is where they stay and end up being forgotten.

To avoid running the risk of sounding judgmental, I welcome your comments as to what are the reasons this disparity exists. I hope it has nothing to do with how little you value yourselves and I really, really hope it has nothing to do with any superficiality on your part.

That out of the way, TOVO is still offering Public Speaking classes to individuals who are ready and willing to make this investment in themselves.
